If you’re a gunsmith you cannot afford to not have a Hawkeye Borescope.  First, you will quickly acquire an intimate knowledge of the effects of your tooling and work.  What is the best way to set up a barrel and hold a reamer while cutting a chamber for the cleanest and truest results.?  What effects have your reamer sharpening had?  What is the bore finish really like in the new barrels you’re receiving?  How does one maker’s barrels compare with another?

The Hawkeye Borescope can view the interior of more than just the bore, you can also view inside the rifle bold to see if the striker or spring is making contact and dragging where it should not.  You can see the effects of polishing a chamber or sizing die.  You can quickly determine if an accuracy problem is due to some anomaly in the steel, bore fouling, or throat wear. Unlike other gunsmiths, you will be able to provide your client with visual proof of what is wrong with their firearm.

I cannot imagine how stupid I have been over the years! Spending a fortune on high end scopes, barrels, reloading equipment and the best barrel cleaning methods only to find out that what I was doing was leaving a lot of crap still in the barrel which would in all likelihood have me chasing my tail with load testing.

I also found out what works, and what doesn’t. I am no longer using Butch’s Bore shine, and now I am using Bore Tech products, Kroil/JB.

Your patches will come out clean and you will think that the bore is clean.. Not true. I found using several chemicals that there are carbon, and copper that will not show on the patches that come out the muzzle, even letting the chemical sit in the barrel as instructed. I also found that the VFG pellet cleaners make any chemical work better at cleaning the bore.

Considering the time, money spent on barrels, reloading equipment, scopes, etc., you should buy one of these before you spend any money on items above..

wanted one of these for years, tried the ccd devices and was disappointed. this hawkeye is clear, resolution is exceptional. its easy to use and your price is right. have been through most of my rifles and found a couple of ‘new ‘ barrels were total junk. will employ this with satisfaction for years…..seems that my cleaning methods are ok. very well made. will be fabricating a special wooden box , not that the cardboard isnt sufficent, just proud of my tools
